Ugh. Dahl. I hate and love him. But at the end of the day, I am absolutely flabbergasted that I had a piece published in the same magazine his words had graced.

But jesus christ, he hated women.

Like all Dahl’s adult short stories, so many strong emotions bubbled inside be as I was reading Trickery. Here’s a list of the short stories found within this collection followed by a brief statement of my thoughts about the piece:

The Wish

Meh, I don’t like kids.

Beware of the Dog

This was fascinating. Psychologically thrilling and deeply engaging. You find yourself thinking so hard trying to figure it out before Williamson.

The Champion of the World

So fun. Laughing out loud.

The Visitor

Previously read in Switch Bitch.

Mrs. Bixby and the Colonel’s Coat

WOW. This story is one of the prime examples demonstrating how much Dahl hated women.

Rummins

WhAt. thE. FUCK.

Mr. Hoddy

Lol, gross.

The Hitchhiker

This story is so classically Dahl. What a storyteller.

The Surgeon

Also classically Dahl.

Princess Mammalia

Gosh, Dahl truly, truly despised women. It’s during tales like this that I don’t see Dahl as a magnificent writer but instead a sad, pathetic man-child.

Like all the rest of the Dahl books on my blog, 4 out of 5 stars and Bechdel Test not passed.
